Beat the virus at its game

The Covid 19 virus has caused mayhem around the globe. Our country too has also been hurt by the scourge of acute illness it has brought about.

But for the past four weeks the incidence of the contagious virus has been showing an encouraging downward trend, which is happy news.

Well, now we are all aware that once the virus infects a person it remains alive for about ten days, and meanwhile our immunity which has been disturbed by the virulence of the infection acts appropriately and regains most of the health. Of course, we also know the unlucky few who succumb to the disease, and since it affects a large population at one time, the number of ‘unlucky few’ is huge.

We are all aware that once an individual gets infected they gain reasonable resistance and do not contract the infection again.

Also, we have to acknowledge the fact that more number of people are getting duly vaccinated and they have gained some immunity too!

These are primarily the two reasons why the virus has been kept at bay. Sounds good.

But, this quiet period was also seen after the first wave but the second wave came back with a vengeance. That is because once a significant segment of the population is affected, the virus loses its surprise element and even if one contracts the infection, it remains mild and does not cause any loss of life. This is when the virus is at its wits end to survive and regain the ‘surprise element’ through mutation.

How do we prevent a third wave now?! Let us allow it to die down at the earliest. Let us not to forget the mask through 2021; let us keep the vulnerable population, the elderly and people with comorbidities safe!!
