The science of epidemiology says that when there is a preponderant viral infection in the population ; it does not give room for the other viruses to infect and multiply!!
What has happened in the past three years during the covid pandemic is that there was no other virus that came to the fore to infect humans as much as Corona did. So the population has been either naturally through lack of infection or artificially through isolation has kept the human race away from many a winter virus like H9N2. Having said that this virus has a capacity to mutate at a greater pace than the other viruses.
What it has meant is that the young children who were born during the covid phase never had an exposure to many of the winter viruses. The previous lockdown in China last year was almost the fag end of their winter. So this year once the cold months set in; the viruses had a field day and the susceptible young ones started to have the infection of H9N2 at a wave that was not usually expected creating fears of the just gone experience of a pandemic. What made things worse in China was that the otherwise upper respiratory illness that this virus would cause has got an extension into the lower respiratory tract because of low immunity. This is the reason for the pneumonia of the young children in China.
But our country has seen a winter last year when our population including the young ones have gone through a round of a routine viral infection having evoked a natural immunity. So even if this strain of virus would enter our shores it is very likely that the pneumonia that is prevalent in the young children in China wouldn’t be the case in our country any more. Also the chance of virus spreading across is less in a developing country like ours as the immunity is much better when compared to developed countries because of past exposure to such viruses.
Needless to say keeping the young child at home when they have a little cold or a cough would help them to recover early while preventing the same to spread across the community. Also at the first instance as we are all aware; if homeopathic medicines are administered they do the job well.
