We are all aware of the Aedes aegypti the daytime mosquito which plays the transmitter of the dengue causing virus. Every monsoon there is a fear that these mosquitoes lay their larvae in the puddles of water around our homes and multiply rapidly. All they need is a human population around them for their nutrition and the virus from a dengue infected person is unwittingly transmitted to a healthy one by the mosquito on their ‘food call’.
Well, according to a research study published in Lancet South East Asia journal, 30.9% of children between the ages 9-12 and 24.6% of children between ages of 5-8 when tested were found to be positive with a dengue viral infection of the recent past.
That throws up many challenges. It means that one third of the young population have got infected with dengue one time or the other which is a very high prevalence and we need to have better ways of prevention in breeding of mosquitoes, barriers of the same from infecting humans etc.
But on the other hand the positive side of the study is that despite significant population showing positive of the virus whether now or before; not that many children are actually having an active infection which throws light on how better the immunity levels are!
To keep up the immune system and staying away the infections; homeopathy has good remedies like China sulph, Eupatorium perf etc.We can address the infection much before the investigations are at hand by identifying the symptoms and prevent complications while we advise dengue patients to rest and take plenty of fluids to prevent dehydration from high fever, poor oral intake or vomiting.
