
We are aware of the prostate gland in men that tends to increase in size as the age progresses and can inadvertently put pressure on the urethra thereby some men tend to develop difficulty in passing urine. Usually called as the lower urinary tract symptoms.
A research study was conducted in China (reference attached) which shows that there is a possibility of the prostate hypertrophy being associated with other disease conditions. The most common of which is depression and other being chronic lung disease. Diabetes and Hypertension come in next.
It has also been seen that more than one chronic disease when they exist together is also more likely to have BPH as comorbid condition. Interestingly there is no pathological cause that actually the background of comorbidity but it is just that they are more likely to go together.
It helps clinically to see if the patient with BPH has other conditions and can be addressed appropriately.
