FESTIVE DETOX!

It was on the first lunar day of the Kartik month that Lord Krishna lifted the Govardhana Hill to provide shelter to the inhabitants of Vraj or Vrindavan. Lord Indra was upset that the citizens of Vrindavan were offering prayers to Govardhan rather than him and released a torrential rain and the Supreme Lord Krishna got into the act.
As a gesture of gratitude, faith and humility the citizens put forth a feast for the Lord who kept himself away from a sumptuous meal as he was busy lifting the Govardhan Hill lest with the little finger.
Well this day falls a couple of days of the festival Diwali where we have the opportunity to indulge in the best of all foods, sweets, snacks etc. and the digestive system is bounty with work.
Now is the time for detox when the feast of Govardhan festival is on today. The menu for “annakut” that is offered to the Lord usually is to balance the rich food with healthy vegetables harvested during the season that include green and bitter vegetables.
This helps in restoring the energy balance that is subdued by the rich sugar foods of Diwali. Also the microbiome that is stressed with working on the sugars is given a break with the rice and vegetables and acts as a fodder for the good bacteria to grow and glow and aid the metabolism.
This practice helps in bringing mental and physical well being while fostering togetherness and spiritual peace.
Hare Krishna!
