Come the monsoon and it is a merry time for the mosquitoes as they find a nice haven in the habitats of the cities. The pooling of water in the drains, unused air coolers, flower pots, trash cans, old tires comes in handy for the mosquitoes to breed. What’s worse is the Aedes aegyptic nicknamed the daytime mosquito finds its prey in the broad daylight. This mosquito can be lethal as it works as a carrier for the four types of flavivirus and promptly picks them from an infected person and unwittingly injects to a healthy person to cause Dengue fever.
Monsoon time is also for the fevers to be prevalent in the population and Dengue is high on the agenda. What distinguishes Dengue fever from the other is the fever, headache and the rash as the triad of symptoms promptly check in to the innocent man who has been bit by the Aedes aegypti mosquito. In no time, the fever could rise to 104F and disabling the affected even as the characteristic pain behind the orbits cannot allow any peace for the individual. Fever could make a sudden exit and fooling one to be getting better also with a hope that it is only the weakness that one has to tide away. Within a day the second bout comes out of nowhere and this could be troublesome as dehydration sets it. The virus drains the system as it multiplies rapidly in the body that brings down the white blood cells and the liquid portion of the blood i.e. plasma. This is the reason for the characteristic headache and the weakness. This is when the rash makes its appearance and then could be associated with the pain in the joints. If there are blue patches on the body like petechia or a blood clots it means the platelet count or the clotting mechanism of the body is on the anvil to be compromised and shock could set in. Nausea and vomiting ony worsen dehydration further. Just like the chikungunya fever, Dengue also causes acute disabling pain in the joints and is also called as ‘breakbone fever’.
Well, it can be scary when not attended to promptly and appropriately. A patent of Dengue just needs a lot of oral fluids as long as he can ingest them in the form of electrolyte water and something to soothe the pain in the joints away. This will help him in having the energy that is being drained away at the other end by the dengue viruses. Homeopathic medicine has also good remedies to see that the infection is taken on with remedies like Natrum mur, Ipecac, Eupatorium perf, China sulph etc. There is enough relief of the pain with drugs like Belladonna, Bryonia, Rhus tox etc. To treat the illness away remedies like Arsenic alb, Phosphorus are appropriate. Once homeopathic remedies are administered according to the symptoms of the patient, there is an imminent recovery as the onset of the disease is halted and the viruses and stopped in their way. Management of the patient with enough fluids is that is why more important at this point of time.
Dengue has become endemic; in the sense that the virus is always there active in the population and when the conducive atmosphere is there; the infection raises its hood. It makes sense to be on the guard every year during monsoon phase when the viruses are likely to be transmitted easily. It is imperative to contain the prevalence of mosquitoes; first by removing the stagnant water from areas of livelihood and then by guarding against them at least at night through mosquito nets.
Dengue can affect more than once too! What is worse is the second infection could be more lethal and guarding against and if necessary treating promptly is the need of the hour. This monsoon let’s guard against Dengue with Homeopathy.
